Since my camera is dead (maybe it's just in a coma), here are a few of my photographs from the fourth of July that I never found time to post.

I'm back from Boston. Actually, we were staying in Gloucester, that's where "A Perfect Storm" was set.

The place was really beautiful. I'm kind of mad that my camera is broken (there's something wrong with the lens mechanism). There were so many amazing landscapes. The rocky shores of the Massachusetts seacoast looked a lot like how I had pictued it. At one point we ended up driving off to this distant light house and walking down a stone pier that must have been a quarter mile long. My mother almost killed me after I jumped down to the stone ledge where people were leaning against the slabs and cleaning the seaweed off of their fishing hooks. I can't blame her, from where she was standing it must have looked like I had jumped into the bay.

I also had a whole lobster for the first time. It sounded great at first, but when I was finally served the blood red crustacean I felt really guilty, being responsible for its death and all. It's much easier to eat meats that aren't served with a face, especially one that looks so sad. I mean, have you ever really looked at a lobster? It wears the same expression as a dying man who knows he's wasted his life. I don't think I'll be eating another anytime soon.

In the past few weeks I've been to Miami, Atlanta and Omaha. Tomorrow, I'll be going to Boston. I'm quite tired of DC right now, so I've been finding every excuse to get out of here for a little while.

I always wish that I had more free time. In Japanese class I would always answer hima (leisure time) in excercizes where we would have to say what we wanted most. I'm just disappointed that I haven't been able to do what I want with my time this summer. Besides working so much, going away all of the time has left me tired and too drained to work on anything for myself, even this blog.

Just in case you need constant updates:

Actually, during walking tours I always point out the GW Medical Center and mention how we're expecting the Vice President back sometime soon.

My friend Wes has an entry on IMDB now. He's a special effects guy working at Rick Baker studio. Recently he's been working props on MIB 2, Jurassic Park 3 and Bubble Boy. I hope he keeps getting such great work.

I remember him as a big dreamer building monsters for the Netherworld haunted house in Atlanta and getting paid peanuts. I'm kind of jealous that he's doing something that he loves and is making money for it. I hope he continues to be so successful in doing what he wants to do.

I've been slightly panicked for the past couple of days. Besides working two jobs I have to turn in a huge application package for study abroad at Nagoya University. I had wanted to go to Kansai or Kyoto University, but only yesterday afternoon I found out that neither program would have a spring semester only offering. I was left with the Nagoya program and all of the paperwork is due on Sunday. I'm scrambling to get everything together on such short notice, but the application has been asking for a lot of strange things. They refuse to place students into a host family or dormitory unless they enclose a full family photograph from the past three months. I also have to get a lung x-ray, which my mom has agreed to do (thank goodness she works in a radiology department). My professors have also been great and have been supplying me with the recommendations on the spot, even though most recommendations usually take a few weeks.

The essays are the most stressful part, probably because I'm not sure whether it would be better to write them in English or Japanese. I'll probably do both out of paranoia.

I was looking forward to a nice slow weekend. I was originally flying home just to do my laundry and see my dad, but now it looks as if I'll be spending most of my time trying to get all of this stuff done.

Ugh. I didn't realize that it had been so long since I've updated. I'm working on catching up.

puppy cupcakeWhen I went grocery shopping I ended up treating myself to a very ugly cupcake. It was just too great to pass up at only 50 cents with my discount card. Actually, I had a choice between a cupcake topped with a sunglasses accessorized sunflower or a yellow puppy. My cupcake didn't hold up too well after a long trip home in a waxpaper bag.

I've grown a bit too attached to it to eat it right now, and not for any good reason. I remember refusing to eat a gingerbread man when I was in Kindergarten because it was too perfect. It was only after it got smushed in my lunch bag that I finally decided to eat it. This cupcake is far from being perfect, but I'm still reluctant. Perhaps I'll force myself to eat it before it becomes stale.

I'm not a member of the Campus Green Party, but that didn't stop me from pretending on Saturday. At the student activity fair for freshman orientation I sat at the Green Party desk with my friend Brian. He seemed really out of it, so I ended up doing most of the smiling and signing people up. Besides there were obscene amounts of candy being given away and I was more than happy to do something that legitimized my Junior Mint consumption while letting me hang out with friends.
