This seems a bit counter intuitive. I would think that most stores would jump at the chance to get word of mouth free advertising. Instead they use the DMCA to clobber web sites that post sale information that will be released for free anyway. It's another case of abusive litigation; sales are certainly not copyrighted information.

Beautiful disasters: a cloud of fog over California, a glacier collapse in Russia, a typhoon in the pacific, Mt. Etna erupts.

For people who have not yet escaped standardized testing: the worthless word of the day.

I am suffering from a strange sort of involuntary narcissism. After filling out dozens of graduate school and scholarship applications I feel like I'm being forced to be self-centered. I have to meditate about me, write essays about me and how great I am, and answer stacks of little questions about myself. Any negativity or self-doubt is strongly discouraged. So I write about a highly edited version of me, one without flaws or uncertainty. And each school will receive a thrice-edited advertisement. I’m 50% off right now, just in time for holiday shopping.
This is starting to wear me out; I've never had to write so much about one thing before. This makes it hard to blog, but at least I can be negative here. Maybe I’ll write about other people for a few days and clear my head. I just came up with an idea for a screenplay today. I’ve been kind of worried because I've been in a dry spell for writing ideas.

Today is my birthday, but I had my party on the 1st of November. I enjoyed probably my last election day/birthday to be celebrated with free bowling in the Hippodrome. In the next lane was a student who had just lost his job because Sen. Max Cleland failed in his reelection bid. I guess this is why Election Day is strangely personal in DC. Sometimes it's like people are voting as to whether you'll be employed the next year.
